Year-end 2004 Bank Application Overview
By: Dana S. Hampton, Director of Corporate Activities

At year end 2003, Kansas state-chartered banks totaled 263. One conversion of a national bank to a state bank and the merger of three state banks result in the current number of 261. Eleven state trust companies were operating at year end 2003; that number is unchanged as of year end 2004.

Forty-six corporate applications were filed by Kansas banks and trust companies during 2004. Included were the following: New Branch Office - 21; Relocation of a Main Office or Branch Office - 7; Name Change - 1; Merger/Purchase and Assumption - 11; Change of Control - 3; Contracting Trustee - 1; Trust Powers - 2. Additionally, 29 money transmitter companies are licensed to do business in Kansas. Licenses of money transmitter companies are renewed on an annual basis.

An overview of some of the transactions which were consummated during the year is provided below. If you desire more details of any of the transactions, please feel free to contact our office or visit our website.
