Bank Applicaton Activity
By: Dana Hampton, Director of Corporate Activities

At year end 2004, Kansas state-chartered banks totaled 261. Since that time one bank was merged out of existence and one new bank opened for business, so the total number of banks remains the same. Regarding trust companies, the merger of EBK Trust Company, Overland Park, into The Midwest Trust Company, Overland Park, was effective May 31, 2005. Trust companies now total ten. A review of application activity for the first half of 2005 is outlined below.

On May 2, 2005 VisionBank, Topeka, opened for business. At the time the bank opened, two Topeka branch offices of Western National Bank, Lenexa, were acquired. The main office of VisionBank is located at 712 South Kansas Avenue and a branch office is located at 2915 SW 29th Street, Topeka. Additionally, the bank operates a bank-owned courier service. VisionBank is owned by BOTS, Inc. and Gary Yager is bank president.

Also on May 2, 2005, the main office of First Bank of Medicine Lodge was relocated to 7401 West 135th Street, Overland Park. The 120 East Kansas, Medicine Lodge office remains a branch.

Emprise Bank, Iola, and Emprise Bank, N.A., Hillsboro, were merged into Emprise Bank, Wichita, on May 16, 2005. As a result of the VisionBank branch acquisition and the Emprise merger, total assets of Kansas state-chartered banks increased over $100 million.

We are also happy to report on the opening of seven new branch offices by Kansas state-chartered banks: Citizens State Bank, Pomona - 1230 East Logan, Ottawa; Kansas State Bank, Manhattan - 539 West Sixth Street, Junction City; The Citizens State Bank, Moundridge - 1701 South Kansas Avenue (inside WalMart), Newton, and 200 West Cedar (inside Showalter Villa), Hesston; Hillcrest Bank, Overland Park - 11150 Greenwood Street (inside Greenwood Terrace), Overland Park; Legacy Bank, Colwich - 3711 North Ridge Road, Wichita; and Peoples Bank, Lawrence - 121 East Main Street, Red River, New Mexico.
